- Accessibility to wildlife - dolphins, kiwis, sea lions, seals, penguins, birdlife, all in their natural environment
- Historically rich in early settler heritage and architecture
- Off the beaten track experiences - Stewart Island and the Catlins coastal area
- Southern Scenic Route, a signposted highway journeying alongside the regions’ coasts and through native bush
Quick overview
- Main centres - Dunedin and Invercargill
- If travelling north to south Oamaru is the entrance to the Otago region
- Dunedin is located five hours south of Christchurch, and hours 4 ½ hours east of Queenstown
- From Invercargill, Queenstown is 2 ½ hours drive or Te Anau 2 hours

As you work through the module using the information you gather, build an itinerary using the following criteria:

Time available - land: Six days
Starting point: Christchurch
Ending point: Te Anau
Client Profile: An active couple in their 50’s interested in wildlife and heritage experiences. Put together a six day itinerary for the Dunedin/Coastal Otago and Southland regions that is part of a greater South Island itinerary.
Take into consideration travel times between centres, and include suggested activities and attractions that fit your clients’ profiles.
