The Coromandel

Next up was the much more exciting and jaw dropping Cathedral Cove. The Coromandel in general has some amazing coastline and this is one of the gems along the way. Things get really crowded here in the summer and we’re glad to be here at this time of the year when the crowds have subsisded and you can get a few beaches all to yourself.

We arrived in the south island around half 9 in the evening so we quickly found a campsite in Picton to crash at, the obvious choice again is the Kiwi sites as they are always cheaper and always a good standard.

Taking time out at Maruia Springs

On a recent visit from Murchison to Christchurch, travelling through the parklands of the Lewis Pass, we discovered the natural hot pools at Muruia Springs. A natural thermal wonderland, these pools were a welcome saviour on a chilly winter afternoon and the chance to soak in our own private hot pool, gazing out at the snow-capped Southern Alps, was far to good to pass up.

Time out in Thames

It’s hard to imagine as you wander the streets of this peaceful town, but in the last years of the 19th Century, Thames was the most populous centre in New Zealand.

Zorbing in Rotorua

In the 1990’s, two kiwis were looking for a new adventure challenge and came up with the idea of jumping inside a large inflatable ball and rolling around for fun! They gave it the name ‘Zorbing’ and it is now a worldwide business with franchise agents in many countries, from Sweden, to Ireland, and Korea to Thailand.
